vernal falls featuring special guest nevada falls

off we go! this hike took us to the top of not one, but two spectacular waterfalls, vernal and nevada. i believe it was about 7 miles and involved a 1900 ft. elevation gain.

vernal falls. it was something out of a nerd's fantasy dream, without the centaurs and armies of scantily-clad temptresses, of course.

single rainbow!

the mist coming off of vernal falls as we climbed to the top succeeded in soaking our clothes, but not our spirits!

jarrod spots yet another phallic symbol.

after a short break atop vernal falls, we proceeded to conquer nevada falls. there she is in the background being all sassy.

amusing story: jarrod dropped my camera not once, but twice on our way up to nevada falls. it was in the case and didn't fall far, so we assumed it was fine. However, while we were negotiating the grueling switchbacks, jarrod discovers that he cannot get the camera to turn on. Panicked, he decides to keep this information from me so not to discourage me from the important goal of reaching the top. I, being preoccupied with not falling over from exhaustion, didn't ask once for the camera on the long hike up, thereby remaining unaware of it's broken-ness. Jarrod in the meantime is freaking out about how he is going to tell me he broke my camera as it continues to not work. So, we arrive at the top of nevada falls, and jarrod says, "cecca, i have something to tell you," and the look on his face is one of pure fear (i have been known to overreact in certain situations). He proceeds to tell me that the camera won't work and he is so sorry, etc. and as he continues to lament, I take the camera from his hands, push the on button, wait for the lens to pop out and snap this photo, capturing a vast mixture of emotions one is rarely in a position to capture. My camera worked, for the most part, the rest of our trip.

after realizing my camera was still functioning, jarrod proceeded to take off most of his clothes.

on our way back down, which was in many ways more difficult than the climb up.

success!
