mountain meadows massacre site

this is where, in the 1850's, mormons dressed up as ute indians, surrounded a wagon train from arkansas, and then brutally murdered all of the emigrants except for several children under the age of five (deemed too young to remember). why? vengeance of course. if you look it up, you can find more details surrounding the massacre. we arrived at the site around dusk, which multiplied the already creepy vibe surrounding the area. plus, in order to get there, one must drive along a highway that seems to only lead to one polygamist community after another. i thought we were walking into a newspaper headline that would include the phrases "vanish", "mystery" and "severed toes."

another questionable aspect concerning the site: see that pile of poop-like rocks behind jarrod? that is the LDS church's memorial to those killed on that day. the mormon church now maintains the site, which seems a little strange being that the emigrants were non-mormons from arkansas.

those bluffs in the distance were used by the mormons to surround the emigrants. this place creeped us out, to say the least. nonetheless, interesting.
